BIO

Kansas City-based Contemporary Singer/Songwriter, Erica McKenzie is building a reputation as one of the finest voices to ever emerge from the Midwest.

Erica's Pop/Rock style is super Soulful with hints of Country, R&B, Folk & Jazz. A giver of goosebumps, she can melt any heart. Her quirky, bubbly character often surprises her listeners with a hauntingly beautiful, buttery tone. Erica's original lyrics are clever, catchy, deep and relatable.

Harmony is Erica’s birthright. She was Born on Labor Day, September 5th, 1988 and began walking, talking and singing by 9 months old. The oldest of 5 siblings is a “Junior” to Eric, her father with a tender Tenor voice and massive classic rock playlist. Erica's mother (Verlinda) played saxophone, is a fabulous writer and always had a vast variety of genre's playing on the radio. Erica's understanding of the language of music came naturally and was nurtured by many members of her large, extended family who each have a very special influence on her well-rounded taste.

Self-taught on a handed-down Gibson Epiphone at age 16, she quickly learned how to accompany her powerful voice. Erica's chops were then further developed while studying Vocal Performance and Classical Guitar at the University of Central Missouri in her early 20's. Singing is what she was put on this earth to do and by her mid-20's, she finally conquered her fears of success. Erica submerged herself into her destiny, mastered the art of live looping and began singin' for her supper.

Managing herself by the beat of her own drum, Erica currently plays several shows each week and averages over 150 gigs per year.  Being a human-jukebox and sharing her gifts is earning Erica a faithful following of “Ericans”. She's persistent in achieving her goals and has big plans to record and release her first original full-length Debut Album in due time.
